What the platform handles
London Au sells HMRC-recognised investment gold (VAT-exempt under Notice 701/21) alongside VAT-rated silver, a small, high-value product line where the hard part isn't the catalogue, it's everything around it: identity verification tiered to order value, vendor procurement with bullion-market price fixing, and invoicing that has to be gapless and auditable. We built all three applications end to end.

Storefront
- Product catalogue for 1g to 10g gold coins and a 500g silver set
- Multi-step checkout: address, review, KYC, bank-transfer payment
- Prices snapshotted into the order so later changes never apply retroactively

How we handled a genuinely regulated commerce flow
Designed the order state machine first
Before writing checkout UI, we mapped every state an order can be in, from pending KYC and awaiting bank transfer through payment confirmed, processing, dispatched, and delivered, so compliance and fulfilment could never fall out of sync.

Purchase lots can be booked fixed or unfixed against a market reference rate, with partial fixing tranches, the kind of workflow a spreadsheet handles badly and a database handles well.

Made the audit trail non-negotiable
Every staff write action is logged. Invoice and credit-note numbers are gapless. HMRC investment-gold VAT-exemption wording is baked into the invoice template, not left to manual entry.
