What we shipped
PG (paying-guest) owners in India typically run their business on a notebook and a WhatsApp group, tracking rent by memory, verifying tenants by gut feel, managing mess menus on a whiteboard. DesiPG replaces that with a subscription platform: owners get real operations software, guests get a brokerage-free way to find verified rooms, and an admin team keeps every listing honest before it goes live.

Guest App
- Search verified PGs by location, gender, food, and price
- Digital KYC: Aadhaar, emergency contact, occupation

- Multi-PG management: floors, rooms, beds, pricing tiers, food menus
- Ledger, rent collection, receipts, and expense tracking with live analytics
- Staff accounts with restricted screens for reception and mess roles
Admin & Backend
- Manual approval queue for every listing before it goes public
- Razorpay webhook as the single source of truth for payment state
- Live dashboard via Server-Sent Events, plus full audit logging
How we built four apps that had to agree with each other
Backend first, contract locked early
With four separate front-ends and no monorepo, the NestJS API contract had to be right before any client app started. Auth, PGs, stays, payments, chat, and the admin module were specced and built first.
- JWT auth with phone and OTP verification
- Aadhaar KYC through a licensed verification partner
- Razorpay integration for both subscriptions and rent payments
Owner and guest apps in parallel
Expo/React Native for both mobile apps kept the two builds moving together, sharing patterns for chat, notifications, and file uploads while serving very different user journeys.
